Chuck Shaw: When we take the program out in the schools, it isn't just to try and get everybody to enlist in the Services, that we're providing a product of services that go well beyond that. That when we talk to the counselors and the administrators, a lot of them don't realize that the program is free.

Dennis Boston: The test administrators that work here at the Boston MEPS are instructed to almost put the applicant at ease to try to get them to relax, to do the best that they can do on the particular test. Chuck Shaw: We talk to them about work values, what's important to them, what they want to get in return from choosing a particular occupation. And then we bring all of that together and use that to help them plan their career and show them how to work with, in terms of, the money and the time that it's going to take to complete their education.

I think the ASVAB program, because of the aptitude element that we have with it is — it stands head and shoulders above most of the other stuff that I've seen out there. AFQT scores are used to determine enlistment eligibility. Students are given the opportunity to take the ASVAB at no cost and no commitment to military service. The ASVAB CEP also provides an interest assessment and planning tools to help young adults explore career field entry requirements and various career paths, both military and civilian.

Students in 11th grade and beyond receive valid scores for enlistment. The scores report how the student performed on each subtest area, and how their scores compare with others who took the test. They can also access their Service-specific line scores at careersinthemilitary.

Army recruits must score at least The Army accepts more recruits with a GED than any other branch. Both versions of the test are split into a number of different subtests with different numbers of questions that must be completed in a specific limited time. However, research shows that most ASVAB test takers need less than the full allotted time limits per each section and move through at a typically faster pace. Arithmetic Reasoning measures the ability to solve arithmetic word problems.

Math Knowledge covers all the knowledge study at your high school. You must wait another month to retest a second time. After that, it requires a six-month wait from the previous test.

The military does not any charge for taking the test. It's free for candidates, although you can take part in training courses to help you prepare well for it. The fee for preparation courses varies depending on which organization and what type of instruction you choose.
