Can you bake breaded okra

Sadly, I made these before reading the reviews. I used House Autry stone ground cornmeal, and though I love this particular cornmeal in muffins, it did no justice in this recipe. I did only keep the okra in the oven for 20 minutes, so they did not become tough, but no one in my family liked them.

Like others who also made this despite the horrible reviews I thought I could make it work I really thought this would be better than the other reviews indicated but it was lousy. Maybe frozen okra would have been better because the fresh just got tough once it was cooked. And despite the extra spices the crust was bland.

Don't waste your okra on this one. Thought we'd try it despite the poor reviews as we had some fresh okra from the farmer's market. It didn't taste even remotely close to fried okra and was stringy as well. I'd far rather use fresh okra for gumbo! Home Recipes Oven-Fried Okra. Oven-Fried Okra. Home about f. Oven-Fried Okra Crispy with all of the flavors we love, this Oven-Fried Okra is the next best thing to the southern classic. However, the small vegetables are tasty on their own, becoming a great finger food for dipping and stuffing when deep-fried.

Whether cooking a large quantity and freezing for later, or purchasing frozen pre-fried okra at your local grocery store, the best way to reheat these morsels so you retain both the flavor and crunch is through baking. The heat allows the outside to crisp up without becoming soggy. Prepare a baking sheet for the okra by lining it with parchment paper. Take the individual pods and place them on the sheet in one even layer, ensuring that there is space between each.

Don't stack the pods on the baking sheet, as this makes them soggy where they touch. Set the oven rack to the middle setting -- this allows the heat to evenly circulate around the pods as they cook. Preheat the oven to degrees Fahrenheit or the temperature called for on the okra package. Each individual okra pod or piece is so small that this high temperature cooks the pieces through without allowing them to go soggy.
